Last year in Germany the famous 9-euro Ticket was a huge success, way more than hoped. But it lasted only 3 months (June, July, August). As a result, a new attractive Ticket was planned, designed as a permanent solution, at least officially: the 49 euro Ticket! It’s a monthly subscription and it´s bookable by anyone. It can be used in most public transport means available in Germany and is valid all over the country. Normally it’s usable also by tourists.
Why buy the 49 Euro ticket?
With the prices exploding everywhere, because of the troubles worldwide in recent years, having a cheap travelling pass would be very helpful. This is also one of the purposes of this new ticket (Deutschlandticket), another being to help against climate change. The price set at 49 euro/month seems very convenient:
– there isn’t a limit to how many times you can travel
– no limit where to: it’s valid throughout Germany.
– you can use it as a digital ticket, through the apps.
– it’s valid in buses, trams, intercity trains (S-Bahn), underground rail lines (U-Bahn) and regional trains (Regionalbahn) at 2nd Class.
These benefits will show themselves even more when you come to Germany as a tourist. A very usual thing a tourist is to travel and a universal travel pass will save time and trouble and help you focus more on enjoying the country that you’re visiting.
How to buy the 49 Euro ticket?
Here we’ll focus more on the ways to buy this ticket if you are outside Germany. Another advantage of the ticket is the possibility to get it online on a website or through an app. An overview is given below:
- Deutsche Bahn (German national rail network)
– official website of DB
– respective app DB Navigator - RMV (Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund) Rhine-Main regional transport association
– official website of RMV
– respective app RMVgo
We chose the RMV transport association because we live in Frankfurt, but every Region (Land) has an association where the 49-euro Ticket can be bought. The information is included also in English.
The only negative side of the online purchase is that you should open an account first. This can be a little time-consuming but it’s still worth it.
In the Sale centres of the regional operators, it’s also possible to buy it in paper form with a QR-Code (possible only till 31.12.2023) or as a chip card.
In the counters at the DB sale centres is possible to get it only as a digital ticket. For more information, you can browse also the website of the Government.
Conclusions
In the end, this new 49 euro ticket has only advantages as we saw. We at Travel Soldiers are looking forward to get the best out of it! Using public transport has also other benefits, like enjoying the view along the ride or trip or chit-chatting with your best friends.
Enjoy your 49 euro Ticket if you’re coming to Germany this summer and beyond. Feel free to ask us in the comments below. Happy Travelling!
